Taliban storms police station in Afghanistan

Kabul: The Taliban militants attacked a police station in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar on Monday, triggering a heavy gunfight, a police source said.

“The attack took place at around 5.50 p.m. when armed militants engaged with police personnel in ninth police district of provincial capital Kandahar city,” the source told Xinhua anonymously.

Units of special operation force also arrived at the scene and the security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures, he said.

No casualty reports were immediately available as the clash is going on at the moment, the source added.
The Taliban militant group has claimed responsibility for the incident shortly after the attack.
