Tantrik arrested for raping teen in Haryana

Chandigarh: The Haryana Police have arrested a ‘tantrik’ (occultist) who was also a former chairman of a panchayat samiti, on the charges of raping a 19-year-old girl in Gurgaon.

Stating this here today, a spokesman of the police department said that the ‘tantrik’ would send out word that he had occult powers to treat certain types of diseases, draw women by giving them false hope, sexually exploit them and later cheat members of their families.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim on July 31, a resident of area under the Sadar Gurgaon police station, the parents of the girl took her to the accused ‘tantrik’ in Sohna in Gurgaon district, who sexually exploited her several times on the pretext of curing her of the disease she was suffering from.

He also demanded from her father Rs 5,000 per visit, the spokesman said.

After a case was registered under various sections including 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, a police team today conducted a raid at the place where the accused used to practice in Sohna and arrested the ‘tantrik’ identified as Deen Mohammad alias Deenu. His assistant Daraabkhan was also nabbed, he said.

The interrogation revealed that the accused ‘tantrik’ is 65 years old, has three wives and 10 children.

He was chairman of a panchayat samiti in 2002, the spokesman said.
