TDP to raise farmers’ suicides issue in Assembly: Errabelli

Telangana TDP today warned that if the TRS government failed to mitigate the problems of distressed farmers, it would raise the issue in and outside the State Assembly.

In an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, TDP floor leader in the Assembly Errabelli Dayakar Rao said the people of the State hoped they would live happily and their desires would be fulfilled if a separate State for Telangana was carved out. But to their dismay, 1,325 farmers have committed suicide following crop failure due to insufficient rains and debt burden after the TRS came to power, he alleged. Another reason that pushed farmers towards committing suicides was non-implementation of loan waiver scheme property, he alleged.

Demanding that the TRS government take measures to prevent suicides of farmers, Errabelli said the government should make payment of Rs six lakh ex-gratia to the kith and kin of farmers’ families who committed suicide after June 2, 2014. It was unfortunate that either ruling party MLAs or officials have not visited the victims families in the villages, he said and asked the government to pay ex-gratia of Rs six lakh to all farmers, who committed suicides after June 2, 2014.
