. Position Summary
The team provides full lifecycle Roof & Underframe (RUF) design engineering for new Passenger rail vehicles. Responsibilities extend to interface management, design development and customer liaison. This role will cover design and development of RUF systems and will include: definition of system integration requirements, effective utilization of space while designing RUF elements \assemblies, definition of validation and verification activities, liaison with other departments and teams. The team also specializes in: troubleshooting for other departments, electrical system design, design assurance and validation, test, installation design and reliability growth initiatives.
To deliver these solutions the candidate will need to occasionally visit suppliers, customers, rail depots and for some work packages international engineering sites.
The candidate will need the following attributes:
Able to understanding the Roof & under frame (RUF) requirements and translate into concept
Ability to review, assess and endorse designs as per IDD and DFMA methodology
Identify and select appropriate materials and surface finish of RUF parts as per requirements
Can apply the welding rules as defined in 3EER400003-9273, particularly selection of Performance Classes
Give evidence of work to the relevant standards under supervision
Can select appropriate mechanical fixings, i.e. threaded fasteners, huck bolts, rivets etc
Through in understating individual tolerances \weights of RUF components and its effect on the assemblies or installation
Must have piping design experience and its integration \installation on the welding structure
Has an awareness of working with manufacturers to achieve improvements in reliability
Understands principles of transferring geometry between CAD and FEA systems
Has some familiarity with customer and legislative requirements are heading for RUF
Strong communicator and negotiator
Solicit customer requirements and transform them into solutions with our suppliers.
Leadership of design reviews and demonstrate good engineering judgment
Proactive approach to solve unplanned or conflicting issues and work with Customer processes
Plan their own workload and deliver it on-time and to the right quality.
Involve \interact with design leads of other functions while developing design solutions
