Teenage girl attacked with acid in Odisha

Berhampur: A teenage girl sustained burn injuries after she was allegedly attacked with acid in her house in Badagada area of Odisha’s Ganjam district, a police official said.

The 17-year-old girl was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in a critical condition after the incident took place last night, the official said.

“The girl is unable to speak properly as her condition is critical. The doctors also advised us not to make her speak.

Our immediate task is to ensure her recovery,” said Additional SP (Ganjam), Gupta Mohankuda.

The girl sustained around 60 per cent burns and is under observation, said a doctor attending on her.

Police said the exact cause of the attack was not known.

At least three persons came on a motorcycle to the house of the girl around midnight and allegedly threw acid on her when she opened the door and fled, police said.

She was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital at Badagada and later shifted to MKCG medical college hospital here.

Quoting her parents, police said the victim had received threat calls from unknown persons some days back, but they did not inform the police about it.

“We have detained one person and hope to identify all the accused soon,” said Mohankuda.
