Telangana and Andhra minorities panel chief’s email IDs hacked

Hyderabad: Abid Rasool Khan, chairman of the Minorities Commission serving Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, today said that his email IDs were hacked by unknown persons who have sought immediate financial assistance from his contact list.

Khan has lodged a complaint with cyber crime wing of Hyderabad Police seeking necessary action.

The hackers who impersonated Khan sent emails to his contact list seeking financial assistance from the recipients claiming that his brother had a terrible car accident and that Khan is currently travelling and asking them to transfer/deposit amount in the bank accounts provided.

Some of the emails also mentioned that Khan’s brother is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Istanbul, Turkey and that the amount can be sent in his cousin’s name, who is at the hospital.

“From today morning, I started receiving calls from people who received such emails in my name seeking financial assistance fraudulently. I have taken steps to inform all my contacts and also filed police complaint,” Khan added.

Police said they are probing the matter.
