Telangana to Organise Independence Day Celebrations Inside Golconda Fort

HYDERABAD:  The Telangana government would organise the Independence Day celebrations this year in the historic Golconda Fort in Hyderabad.

The state government held the Independence Day inside the Golconda Fort for the first time last year and it would be the venue for the event this year as well.

Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, who held a review on the issue today, directed the officials to make fool-proof arrangements for the event, a state government release said.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would pay homage at the ‘Veerula Sainik Smark’ (soldiers’ memorial) at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad in Hyderabad and unfurl the National Flag at the Golconda Fort, the release quoted the Chief Secretary as saying.

He directed that important buildings like Raja Bhavan, Secretariat, High Court, among others, be lit up on the occasion, it added.

The Golconda Fort originally belonged to the Kakatiyas of Warangal. In AD 1363, it was ceded to the Baihmanis. After their downfall in AD 1518, it became the capital of the Qutb Shahi Kings.

Subsequently, Aurangazeb annexed it to the Mughal empire.
