Tennis legend King believes Serena could be `greatest of all time`

Johannesburg : Tennis legend Billie Jean King believes that current world number one Serena Williams can etch her name into history books as ‘the greatest of all time’ if she can add a couple of major titles in her kitty.

Williams equalled Steffi Graf’s 22 Grand Slam titles after defeating Angelique Kerber in straight sets in the Wimbledon women’s singles final on Saturday. The American now remains two short of Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24.

King, who has won 12 grand slam singles titles, opined that Williams could be the greatest of all-time if she remains fit and motivated in the coming few years, Sport24 reported.

King observed that Williams was emotionally and mentally strong, referring to her compatriot’s tremendous ability to bounce back from adversaries.

Last year, Williams’ hopes of completing a calendar Grand Slam were shattered when she suffered a shocking defeat in the semifinals against Italy’s Roberta Vinci at the US Open.

The 34-year-old was unable to win any major title since then, losing two successive Grand Slam titles at Australian Open and French Open before winning her seventh Wimbledon title. (ANI)
