Masjid attacked: Tension grips Nandi Nagar Hyderabad during election campaign

Tension prevailed at Nandi Nagar, Banjara Hills during election campaign when a masjid and Islamic Welfare Society office was attacked. The incident sparked tension in the area and a large number of local Muslims including leaders and activists of Telangana Rashtra Samithi staged dharna before police station.

According to sources Congress candidate of Venkateshwara Nagar municipal division Bharati Naik, her husband Baba Naik and their supporters reportedly attacked a local Masjid Committee and Islamic Welfare Society office alleging distribution of amount. Baba Naik and his supporters entered the masjid and seriously assaulted Syed Owais Peeran president Masjid Committee while desecrating the masjid.

When one Jahangir objected, he was also roughed up. Women were also attacked. According to sources the centre offers interest free loans to the needy irrespective of religion. Impressed by TRS policies, Muslims of the area especially president Masjid Committee along with his supporters joined TRS the day before. This vexed Congress leaders and incensed Bharathi and his husband Baba Naik, local Muslims said.

Local Muslims demonstrated before the police station and expressed anger over desecration of masjid and abusing of Muslims by the Congress leaders.
