T’gana seeks financial aid for losses due to heavy rains

Hyderabad: The Telangana government today requested an Inter-Ministerial Central Team, to provide sufficient financial assistance in view of losses to the tune of Rs 2,740 crore due to the heavy rains and floods in the state in September.

The central team is on a two-day visit to the flood-affected areas in the state.

At a meeting with the team here, chief secretary Rajiv Sharma and other officials informed them that due to heavy rains in state between September 21 and 27, large scale damages to roads was reported in various parts besides damage to transformers, standing crops, houses, causing a loss of Rs 2,740 crore.

The Municipal Department suffered loss of Rs 848 crore, followed by Panchayat department Rs 290 crore, Agriculture department Rs 192.77 crore, Irrigation department Rs 112 crore and other departments also suffered losses totalling to Rs 2,740 crore, the chief secretary said and requested for sufficient financial assistance.

Responding to the requests, Joint Secretary (Home) Dilip Kumar said he will take up the matter with the Centre for maximum relief.
