Three held for raping woman

Kakinada: Three persons were arrested today for allegedly raping a married woman at a lodge in the city on July 8, the police said.

The incident occurred when the woman, a resident of Tuni village, was waiting for a bus at the RTC Bus Complex here when she was approached by an autorickshaw driver who offered to drop her to her place.

“However, the driver instead took her to the lodge, where he and two of his friends, who are staffers there, raped her and threw her out on road before fleeing,” incharge deputy SP S. Venkateswara Rao told reporters here.

The accused are identified as Koppisetti Srinu (33), the auto driver, Endukuri Kanaka Raju (35), and Komma Bhargav (31), all residents of Kakinada.

According to the officer, the woman was staying with her mother due to a marital discord with her husband.

An FIR was registered against the trio under various sections of the IPC on the complaint lodged by the woman, he said.

The accused were today produced in a local court, which remanded them in judicial custody.
