Time not right for Afghan peace talks: Aziz

Karachi: Pakistan Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has stated that it is not the right time for resumption of talks between Afghanistan Government and Taliban.

Aziz during his visit to the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) said that right atmosphere needed to be created to convince both stakeholders about the usefulness of the process, the Dawn reported.

Reconciliation is the best option to bring peace in Afghanistan, he added.

He also appreciated Iran Government for their participation to promote dialogue to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Pakistan had earlier facilitated and hosted the first round of peace process between Afghanistan Government and Taliban, but was later stalled after death of Taliban leader Mullah Omar.

Pakistan has appealed the Afghan Government for resuming the process.

However, Afghan Government has criticised Pakistan for “promoting insecurity” in the country. (ANI)
