TMC backs Missionaries of Charity’s decision to stop adoption homes

Kolkata, Oct 11 : The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Sunday welcomed the Missionaries of Charity’s decision of discontinuing adoption centers and said that nobody should pressurise them as they are doing good work.

TMC spokesperson Derek O’Brien said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has supported the decision of Sister Prema and Mother Teresa-founded Missionaries of Charity to stop their adoption centers.

“This great country of ours is based on the essence of unity and diversity. They are doing great work the missionary for charity irrespective of caste, creed, religion they are doing good work for free. We just hope that and pray that they are allowed to continue doing the good work in the way they want to do it and nobody should disturb them. We support the decision of adoption centers. So, no one should pressurise them,” Derek told ANI.

Mamata had earlier supported the Missionaries of Charity on stopping adoption at their orphanages.

Following revision in guidelines on adoption by the Centre, the Missionaries of Charity, had said in a statement yesterday that it had stopped adoption at their orphanages two months ago. (ANI)
