TN polls: EC strengthens number of flying squads in 94 constituencies

Chennai : The Election Commission in poll-bound Tamil Nadu has strengthened the number of flying squads in 94 constituencies perceived to be more prone to distribution of money.

The state chief electoral officer Rajesh Lahoni told newspersons, the squads will intensify their search operations during night.

The Commission is also organizing an event for about one crore voters to take a pledge on Tuesday morning that they would reject any offer of money for vote.

Meanwhile, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, CPM politburo member Prakash Karat, DMK chief M.Karunanidhi, DMDK leader Vijayakanth and many other prominent party leaders are campaigning in different areas this evening.

Most of the 300 company central paramilitary forces have arrived in the state for the May 16 Assembly General Election.

They are set to replace the state police from the composition of flying squads, as told by state election department officials.

Arrangements are also put in place in over 25000 polling booths for web streaming of polling.

Prohibition, power production, industrial growth and employment, promises of waiver of loans and freebies by various parties seem to be dominating the discussions of public ahead of the election. (ANI)
