Tolichowki residents reeling under mosquito menace

Once a desolate land, the Tolichowki and its surrounding areas are gradually getting transformed into a concrete jungle. Although the area seems to be posh and inhabited by well off families and the architectural masterpieces are becoming the landmark of the area, but the residents of the area face a lot of problems. The newly inhabited area diamond hills, located behind the Quli Qutub Shah Tombs, is reeling under mosquito menace. While the rich use mosquito repellents, mosquito incense sticks, mosquito coil, to drive away the mosquitoes but in vain, the poor labour community who is busy constructing multi-storied complexes for rich, and themselves living in huts are the most vulnerable lots.

An Urdu poet had said
So jaate hain footpath pe akhbar bichakar
Mazdoor kabhi neend ki goli nahi khate
(Labours sleep by spreading newspaper on footpath, they never take sleeping pills to fall asleep)

But the mosquito menace has deprived them of their natural sleep blessing too. Thus several poor and labour class are seen using mosquito net, vainly trying to prevent from the invasion of mosquitoes. There are several others who can’t even afford to buy mosquito net. But as the saying goes ‘necessity is the mother of invention. So many poor and labour people are seen using sarees and dupattas in place of mosquito net.
