TPCC Chief, Shabbir Ali supports “Save Jamia Nizamia” campaign

The novel protest adopted by a Congress leader to save “Jamia Nizamia” gathered momentum on Tuesday with several Muslims, especially youth, supporting the call.

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohamed Ali Shabbir and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday visited Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (Minorities Department) Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail at his residence, where he observed Nafil Roza (fasting) for the second day demanding removal of Akbar Nizamuddin from the post of Ameer (head) of Jamia Nizamia.

Uttam Kumar Reddy announced complete support to the “Save Jamia Nizamia” campaign launched by Abdullah Sohail. He said that all religious institutions should be free from all kinds of political interferences and people facing criminal charges should not be allowed entry into prestigious institutions like Jamia Nizamia.

Shabbir Ali said that the movement launched by Sohail enjoys support from all sections of Muslim community. The 140-year-old institution should be saved by removing Akbar Nizamuddin from the post of its Ameer. He said Akbar Nizamudin could not simultaneously hold the posts of Ameer-e-Jamia Nizamia and chairman of Darulsalaam Bank. He alleged that Akbar Nizamuddin was trying to link Islam with interest-based banking system which was against the Shariah and therefore, he should be removed from the post.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Sohail said that he would continue his Nafil Rozas. “I’m not on hunger strike as it is not permitted in Islam and observing Rozas. However, except for consuming dates, milk and water, during Saher and Iftar, I will not eat anything else,” he announced. He said several Ulemas and religious clerics have announced their support for ‘Save Jamia Nizamia’ campaign. He said he request the Imams and Khateebs of various mosques to speak on this issue during the next Friday prayers. (INN)
