TRS blames previous regimes for ryots’ suicides

TRS MLC K Prabhakar today alleged that unabated suicides by farmers are due to criminal negligence and gross inefficiency of the previous governments. He said the non-completion of irrigation projects and failure to offer timely financial assistance by the previous regimes led to suicides by farmers. He appealed to the farmers not to lose heart and take extreme step.

Talking to mediapersons at Nalgonda, the TRS leader said the State Government has taken steps to waive off Rs 17,500 crore towards crop loans in the State. He attributed the pathetic condition of the farmers to the miserable failure of the Congress government. He pointed out that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao released funds for crop loan waiver as no other government did. KCR was determined to offer all possible assistance to the toiling farmers and released Rs 450 crore as input subsidy and planning to restore 45000 lakes under Mission Kakatiya, he explained.

Prabhakar also accused the Opposition parties of criticizing the government for political mileage. He alleged that the previous governments willfully failed to complete irrigation projects in the Telangana region. The Congress and Telugu Desam leaders had deliberately failed to extend support to farmers in distress, he pointed out.

Stating that the farmers were facing shortage in rainfall, Prabhakar said the TRS government was with them to support alternate crops. The government released Rs 900 crore towards subsidy for promotion of poly-house farming and sprinkler irrigation in the State. “The State government will supply nine-hour free supply to farm activities during day time from next year. Therefore the farmers should be brave and get support from the government which was coming up with all support”, he added. (NSS)
