TS to get more 1500 jobs under India BPO Promotion Scheme

Centre’s novel initiative to promote BPOs in the coming five months will bring 1500 jobs to Telanagan state. But according to IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan, ‘BPOs can choose any town or village other than areas falling under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’.

“BPO companies should apply for the scheme and the central government will provide Rs 1 lakh on each job as viability gap funding to encourage firms to come forward to develop its activities in rural areas,” said Jayesh Ranjan.

The Government of India (GOI), under India BPO Promotion Scheme (IBPS), plans to incentivize the creation of as many as 50,000 jobs with capital support in the form of viability gap funding with an outlay of Rs 500 crore, out of which Telangana State has been allotted 1500 jobs with Rs 15 crore Central government funds.

The intention of the Central government behind the scheme is to spread Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) in rural areas which include smaller towns.

The IT secretary said that approvals for the firms would be issued by the central government and once it was done, the State government would take care of providing resources to the firms to set up their units. “At present the Telangana government has extended IT services to all major gram panchayats under the e-panchayat scheme.

The Software Technology Parks of India, a society under the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, would run the scheme. A similar project was also implemented in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh during the YS Rajashekar Reddy government. The then government has started a Village BPO at Bhudan Pochampally of Nalgonda district under pilot project with 20 women and 5 men rural employees.
