TV channel fails to produce interview recordings which led to arrest of Muslim youths alleging ISIS involvement

Hyderabad: Private English TV Channel failed to produce evidence for the cases registered against three Muslim youths by SIT alleging their involvement in ISIS.

The TV Channel telecast a special story in which it was claimed that three Muslim youths from Hyderabad are in contact with ISIS. Their alleged interviews under sting operation were also shown.

Reacting to this, SIT registered cases of criminal conspiracy on 18th May this year. SIT had arrested and interrogated Abdullah Basith, Salman Mohiuddin Qadri and Hannan Qureshi for 24 hours. It interrogated them based on their interview telecast by Republic TV Channel but the youths told that their interviews were manipulated.

Mr. Avinash Mohanty, DCP (Detective Dept.) had issued a notice to the said TV Channel in connection with the Sting operation to produce original video and also to the staff report to present herself before the investigating agency. The management of the TV Channel supplied only the recorded CD of the TV program but SIT officials refused to accept it as evidence. They insisted on producing original video recording. The lady interviewer also avoided presenting herself before the investigating agency. She reported to have shifted her residence to Mumbai or Delhi.

It may be mentioned that the hearing of the petition of SIT for the cancellation of conditional bail of Abdullah Basith in connection with the interview is scheduled for hearing on 18th July at Metropolitan Sessions Court.
