Two Dalit Men Allegedly Thrashed In Maharashtra for overtaking a vehicle which has BR Ambedkar’s picture

Beed: Amid of the controversy over the flogging and shaming of four Dalit men for skinning a dead cow in Gujarat on July 11.

Two Dalit men of Maharashtra, Savargaon village of Beed district were beaten up by nearly 25 people for overtaking a vehicle on Friday.

The duo lodged a complaint against those people. They said after seeing BR Ambedkar’s picture on their vehicle they started beating them. But the probe into the incident was being carried underway and none of the accused have been arrested so far.

Hari Balaji Deputy Superintendent of Police of Majalgaon area said both of them were left with bruise marks on their backs and are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Akash Waghmare, 23, one of the victims said. “After spotting the photograph, they beat me with a belt.They started beating us and wanted to kill us. They took me on their bike and kept threatening us and abusing our caste.”

Mr. Balaji said. “They had marks on their body that showed that they were beaten with belts. There were for four others with these two boys but since they haven’t given us their statement, we don’t know the full story yet. We have not caught the accused yet. A case filed under Prevention of Atrocity Act has been registered.”
