Two injured in ‘minor fire’ at BPCL refinery complex

Kochi: Two contract workers were injured in a “minor fire incident” at the substation of a captive power plant in Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s Kochi Refinery Complex near here today.

The plant was shut briefly after the workers were injured in the “localised electric fire” at the substation of a captive power plant in the refinery complex, a BPCL official said.

Fire fighters were immediately pressed into service to doused the fire, he said.

The official said the fire occurred at the substation during temporary maintenance work at 10 AM today.

Two persons, identified as Velayudhan (53) and Arun (30), were injured and were admitted to the burns ICU unit of a private hospital in Kochi, he said.

Officials said both Velayudhan and Arun are contract workers employed at the plant.

Police said one of the workers had suffered serious burn injuries.
