Kabul : At least 18 militants fighting for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group including two commanders were killed in the latest operations conducted in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a statement today identified two commanders of the group as Khetab and Kamran and said that 22 militants of the terror group were also wounded during the operations.

The statement said the operations were conducted in Kot district involving security personnel from different security institutions, including army, police, and the Afghan Air Force.

The operations came after the loyalists of the terror group launched a major attack on police check posts in Kot district on Friday.

At least eight civilians were killed and seven others were wounded during the attack by ISIS loyalists.

In a bid to curb the activities of the anti-state groups, the Afghan forces as well as the U.S. forces are regularly targeting the loyalists of the terror group in this province.

The U.S. forces have also stepped up airstrikes against the ISIS loyalists after they were granted more authority by the U.S. President Barack Obama. (ANI)
