Two Maoists, others surrender in Andhra Pradesh

Two Maoists, including a woman, carrying rewards on their heads, and 10 Maoist militia members from Vizag Agecny area today surrendered before the police here.

The duo, identified as Vanthala Ramesh alias Balarevula Ramesh (30), native of Koyyuru area, and Seendri Sitha alias Lalitha (20), resident of Pedabayalu area, carried a reward of one lakh each on their heads, police said.

Ramesh was chief of Galikonda Dalam Annavaram Pocket of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), while Sitha held similar rank in Galikonda Dalam Kannavaram Militiam Pocket, Superintendent of police Koya Praveen said.

Ramesh had joined the Naxals in 2008 and was involved in six major offences including murder of Gemmili Subba Rao in 2008, the SP said.

The militia members who surrendered were involved in incidents of violence including blasting of houses of APMDC workers and pipelines of Essar Steel.

They would get cash rewards as per the rules.
