Typhoon Megi to hit China

Typhoon Megi is expected to make landfall in the coastal areas of China’s Fujian and Guangdong provinces around Wednesday, the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) said. As of Saturday the storm centre was located about 1,780 kilometers to the southeast of Taitung in Taiwan on the Pacific Ocean, packing wind of up to 23 meters per second.

Megi, the 17th of this year, will head northwest at 20 kilometers per hour to reach the Chinese mainland on September 28, the NMC forecasted, asking local authorities to take measures to guard against possible disasters, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Meanwhile, heavy rain will sweep across northern and northeastern China over the coming three days, with some regions in Hubei, Henan and Shaanxi seeing storms.
