Hindu Jagarana Vedike activist held for pelting stones at mosque, stabbing auto drivers

Udupi: A Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) activist held for killing a Muslim auto driver and pelting stone at a mosque.

Based on the CCTV footage, the accused identified as Ankit Poojary, is an active member of HJV who also faces charges in more than a few communal cases in Vittal has been arrested.

In a report published in Daijiworld, Ankit, (28) from Kumpala, Mangaluru pelted stones at Noorul Islam mosque at Adi-Udupi in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The crime was captured on CCTV installed outside the mosque.

Before damaging the mosque, the accused picked up quarrel with an auto-rickshaw drivers, Haneef and his relatvie Shabbir.

54-year-old Hanif, a resident of Doddanagudde was on his way to home when Poojary allegedly stabbed him to death.

When Shabbir, 55,  rushed to rescue him from the sudden attack, the assailant stabbed stab him too and fled almost immediately from the crime scene.

While Hanif died on the spot, Shabbeer suffered severe injuries.

According to police sources, the accused come to visit his in-laws house and was in a drunken state at the time of committing the crime.
