London, Nov. 12 : The London Police has issued a ‘request cum warning’ appeal to the people who are in wake of protests while the Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits here.
Commander of Metropolitan Police, London Mak Chishty (full name Makhdoom Chishti, a Muslim) has issued a statement to protesters to remain calm and peaceful during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Modi to London.
“As policing commander, with responsibility for community engagement, we are ensuring that the forthcoming visit of the Indian Prime Minster is a safe and peaceful experience for everyone,” the statement said.
“I appreciate that there are many views from Prime Minister Modi’s visit which ranges from strong support to opposition. Everyone is entitled to their personal view and the role of the Police service is to engage with all sections of the community and provide a policing response that facilitates these events, allows lawful protest and protects us all,” it added.
The statement further said “To achieve our policing aims it is important that we have the support of all communities and in this regard I would be grateful if you could help me by informing your communities that we will be doing our best to provide public safety.”
“I certainly hope that we do not need to use our policing powers to maintain public peace and order and where force is used it will only be because it is necessary and proportionate to the circumstances,” it added.
Meanwhile, protesters are planning to stage a series of demonstrations to disrupt Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to the UK. He has arrived in London for a three-day trip. (ANI)
