Uproar in Council over EAMCET paper leak

Telangana Legislative Council today witnessed uproar on the alleged leakage of EAMCET papers.

Raising the issue, Leader of the Opposition and Congress MLC Shabbir Ali wanted to know about the progress of the probe and how many persons were involved in the case and arrested. Shabbir Ali alleged that the government was not sincere in the probe and wanted to know why the main accused has not been arrested yet. Shabbir Ali demanded that the government hand over the probe to CBI and stern action should be taken against those involved in EAMCET question paper leakage.

Replying to the question raised by Shabbir Ali, Education Minister Kadiam Srihari said the government had immediately ordered an inquiry after news surfaced in a vernacular newspaper. The case was handed over to CID and so far 49 accused were arrested in connection with the case and probe was still going on. Besides, the investigating agency also seized Rs 2.80 crore, he said, adding more arrests are likely.

The minister also stated that there was leakage of EAMCET question paper in 2010 and 2012 and the same accused were involved in the present case, who were arrested earlier. The Congress members, however, not satisfied with the reply of the minister, boycotted the House. (NSS)
