Urdu medium in Open University restored – Effect of Siasat news

Hyderabad: The campaign launched by Siasat Urdu Daily for the restoration of Urdu medium in Undergraduate courses of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Open University Hyderabad has been successful. VC and Registrar of the university declared withdrawal of this decision yesterday.

It may be noted that Dy. CM of Telangana State, Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali had convened a meeting in which VC, Dr. Sitarama Rao and Registrar, Prof. C. Venkataiah were commissioned. The meeting was attended by Advisor to Govt. for Minority Affairs, Mr. A.K. Khan, Secretary, Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, Director, Urdu Academy, Prof. S.A. Shukoor.

In the meeting, anxiety was expressed on the cancellation of admissions of Urdu medium in UG courses of the university. VC and Registrar of the University told that due to the delay in the preparation of textbook in Urdu medium, the admissions in Urdu medium have been postponed only for this year.

Mr. Mahmood Ali told that the Govt. of Telangana is in favour of promoting Urdu language and literature and in such a case, this decision of the university may get defame for the Govt. He assured that necessary help will be provided by the Govt. for getting the material translated in Urdu. After long discussions, it was decided that in the first stage, the textual materials of the first semester would be translated and in this connection the cooperation of MANUU would be sought. Dy. CM contacted Registrar of Urdu University, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed and requested him to get the translation of the materials done for which Registrar accepted.

It was decided that Secretary, Dept. of Minorities Welfare would meet the Registrar of Urdu University with the text books to make a request for translation. In the meeting, it was suggested that Open University may adopt the syllabus of Osmania University for which no agreement was reached. When the Dy. CM asked the university authorities why there was a delay in the preparation of Urdu textual materials, the VC told that Urdu experts were not available. When the Dy. CM asked who were contacted for this purpose, the University Authorities were nonplussed to reply to this question.

Due to the successful efforts of Dy. CM, Mr. Mahmood Ali the restoration of Urdu medium was made possible. Siasat Urdu Daily had placed this case to the people for the first time after which, the leader of the opposition in Telangana Legislative Council, Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbir made a representation to Dy. CM, Mr. Mahmood Ali and Dy. CM, Mr. K. Sri Hari who is in charge of Education Dept.
