Urdu newspapers’ role in freedom struggle, remarkable

Hyderabad: Chief Editor Siasat Daily, Mr. Zahed Ali Khan declared role of Urdu newspapers in freedom struggle as remarkable and said today there is no one to look after the Urdu language and journalism. He lamented that even after 60 years, Urdu speaking people have not got the position they long for. Mr. Zahed Ali Khan was addressing the first annual convention by Telangana Union of Urdu Journalists entitled ‘Role of Urdu journalism in reinforcement of National Integration’ as chief guest.

The convention was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Aalam Mehdi. Commissioner INPR Mr. Naveen Mittal, Secretary Urdu Academy Telangana State Prof. S A Shukoor, Prof. P L Vishweshwar Rao former HoD, Journalism, OU, Mr. Aslam Farshouri, Rani Thote, Mr. Hadi Raheel addressed the convention.

Speaking further Mr. Zahed Ali Khan said the role played by the Urdu newspapers for propagation of Freedom Movement was exceptional and no other language newspapers played the role as played by the Urdu newspapers. He asserted that Siasat has not just remained a newspaper but has become a movement. He apprised of the educational and welfare services rendered by Siasat.

Commissioner INPR Mr. Naveen Mittal and Prof S A Shukoor paid tributes to the valuable services of Urdu journalism in the reinforcement of National Integration. Later Telangana Union of Urdu Journalist presented awards to Urdu journalists including Mr. Shahabuddin Hashmi Bureau Chief Siasat, Mr. Syed Ataullah Khundmiri sub editor Mr. Hadi Raheel and others.
