US-India educational partnership at zenith: US envoy official Posner

Agartala, Nov.19 : The present educational partnership between the US and India is all time best claimed a senior official of the Kolkata based US Consulate General office.

Speaking to reporters during a media interaction here Andrew Posner, Public Affairs Officer and spokesperson for US Consulate General in Kolkata said, “US-India education partnership has never been better and I think that the numbers will really support this. In 2013-2014 school year 102673 students (of India) studied in US, in 2014-2015 132888 students (of India) were studying in US. That is an increase of 29.4 percent. This is the highest rate of growth for Indian students for the history of the Open Doors reporting project which stands back to 1954.”

The US official was referring to Open Doors report which is published annually by the Institute of International Education (IIE) with support from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The officer informed that India is in the second position with 13.6 percent of total 974926 students from throughout the world studying in US. While in the top is China with 132888 students and which is an 31.2 of the total foreign students studying in US.

“It reflects so well of our relationship, so again 29.4 percent students. International students overall figures from 886052 pupils to 974926 so that is student’s increase by 10 percent. India is the second leading place of origin and that count for 13.6 percent of the total international student population in the US,” Posner added who is on a three days visit to the state.

He informed that in US the most favourite international hosting state is Texas where 17.6 percent students study and the most favourite field of study is Math and Computer Science followed by Engineering.

The US official viewed that the north-eastern part of India has huge scope and a bright future with the growing connectivity in the region.

The US official along with his team is schedule to visit some of the educational institution and university to interact with the students and aware and encourage them about the scope and prospects of higher education and studying in US. (ANI)
