Uttam demands White Paper on irrigation projects

Alleging the TRS Government was robbing the lands of farmers in the name of redesigning, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday said that the government was giving contracts to Andhra contractors.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao have been indulging in gobbles propaganda on irrigation projects and misleading people. He was speaking at the party office during a coordination meeting on CM’s PPT on irrigation projects. He said that projects started during Congress regime were sufficient enough to cultivate a considerable chunk of lands in the state. He said that if only Rs. 10,000 crore are added to the expenditure on pending projects it has the potential to fulfill the needs of 33 lakh acre Ayacut lands.

Only in Mahabubnagar District, if Rs. 878 crore are spent it would be enough to irrigate nearly 7.8 lakh acre land. Similarly, several projects in Adilabad, Karimnagar and other districts were completed up to 80 or 90 percent, he said. He alleged that the TRS Government has redesigned projects keeping in view the commissions. This is a big fraud and betrayal to the people of Telangana, he said.

Stating that State Government was spreading lies, he demanded that the government release a White Paper on all irrigation projects. (INN)
