Vadodara: Cop injured as groups clash; situation under control

Vadodara: Two groups clashed in ‘communally sensitive’ Fatehpura locality in Vadodara, in which one policeman got injured and some police vehicles were damaged.

The incident took place late last night and police lobbed around 20 tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

According to police, the situation was immediately brought under control.

“There was a heated argument between two groups over the passing of a religious procession from Fatehpura area, which led to a clash around 11 pm on Sunday. Members of both the groups started hurling stones,” city Joint Police Commissioner D J Patel said.

After being informed about the violence, police teams rushed to the spot.

“A police constable got injured in stone-pelting and windscreens of some police vehicles got damaged in the incident,” Patel said, adding that about 18 to 20 tear gas shells were lobbed to disperse the crowd.

A case of rioting was registered against unidentified persons and further investigations are on.
