Venkaiah felicitated on being elected to UN post

Stating that he has no Godfathers in politics, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said he did not come from Gandhi or Nehru family and nobody from his family was neither well-educated nor in politics.

           

On the occasion of election of Venkaiah Naidu as president of Council of United Nations’ Habitat, his friends, well-wishers and BJP activists organized a “Meet and Greet” program and felicitated him on grand note at Cyber Convention Center here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkaiah Naidu said he was in the present position because of his belief in his ideals, hard work and the cooperation extended by the friends and fans. He said happiness increases only when it was shared with others. Becoming president of United Nations Habitat was not a big position; but was a rare honour, he opined and said it was an honor to the nation.

Venkaiah said he was accepting the position as responsibility. “I would talk to the member-nations on modern policies to be adopted in the coming two years”, he said. Stating that people were migrating from rural to urban areas, Venkaiah estimated that 60% of the people would live in cities by 2020 and hence they were concentrating on urban population.

The Union minister suggested that there was a need to concentrate on environment protection. He said he strove to move the Palestine resolution without any obstacle. Saudi Arabia ambassador extended his cooperation in this regard, he informed and reminded that the Council for United Nations Habitat was established inNairobi with the initiation of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
