DUBAI: A massive fire broke out near Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

Fire broke out on 2 April morning at around 6.30am, eyewitnesses reported.

The 60-storey under-construction building called The Address Residence Fountain Views Towers in Downtown belonged to property developer Emaar.

As black fumes billowed from the burning building, nearby roads leading to Burj Khalifa were immediately blocked off by firefighting crews and traffic was diverted from the busy intersection.

According to Dubai Media Office, no casualties were reported yet at the accident site near Burj Khalifa. “Ambulance teams have been dispatched to the emergency site and no casualties have been reported yet.”

The Dubai media office tweeted: “Fire at Fountain Views towers has been brought under control; cooling operations are underway.”

Three workers who were trapped inside the building were rescued by Dubai Civil Defence teams, along with the Dubai Police rescue teams.
