Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough Indian Embassy in Riyadh rescued Nagina Khatoon of Bangalore who suffered torture by her sponsor (Kafeel) in Saudi Arabia. Nagina Khatoon (40) of Bengaluru who was working in Saudi Arabia as domestic servant was tortured by her employer. She was in the Gurayat General Hospital 1,200 km away from Riyadh. A hospital employee videographed her and uploaded it on the Net.

MBT Spokesman Amjed Ullah Khan’s efforts in bringing the woman back home cannot be underestimated. He wrote letters to Indian Embassy in Riyadh and Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs of India, explaining the plight of the woman. On February 2 he also tweeted about her suffering and tagged Indian embassy at Riyadh and also Sushma Swaraj. On this Indian embassy in Riyadh retweeted “thanks for bringing it to our notice; have constituted a Team, which has started work in full swing.” Putting all its efforts Indian Embassy in Riyadh succeeded in tracing the woman and today Indian Embassy informed that Nagina will reach India on 9-2-17. It also informed that the sponsor paid all her legal dues. Embassy officials saw her off at the airport. They informed that she will be reaching Bangalore at 0345 hrs on 9.2.17 by Jet 9W7145.

It must be noted that the story of Nagina was also published on Siasat website on February 4. In response to the story, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia had assured investigations into the matter and legal action against the violators. In a letter addressed to the Editor, Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, stated “This is in reference to the story “Maid beaten, starved, forced to sleep in bathroom in Saudi Arabia, video goes viral” published on your website on February 4, 2017, the embassy would like to assert that the government of the kingdom of Saudi Arabi has zero tolerance for such alleged transgression of a worker’s rights. The concerned authorities in the kingdom, when provided with valid information will investigate the details of the incident with full force of the law, if found true, the alleged violator would face proper and necessary legal action.”
The Embassy asserted that the Kingdom was the host to nearly 3 million Indians who were highly regarded.
