MUMBAI: Singer Sonu Nigam terms Azaan a ‘forced religiousness’ while Bollywood powerhouse performer Priyanka Chopra finds divine beauty in the sound of Azaan.
On Monday morning in a series of tweets, the 43-year-old singer has described hooliganism or ‘gundagardi’ on the use of loudspeakers for ‘Azaan’.
The Quantico actress while addressing media persons during a shooting of a movie ‘Gangajal-2’ at Noor-us-Sabah hotel, said,
“I will definitely miss Bhopal like anything. Especially I will miss the Azaan for sure.”
“Every evening after pack up I sit on hotel’s terrace and I eagerly wait for Azaan. I never miss this chance a single day here because there is a divine beauty in this Azan. Azaan is given from around six masajids one after the other and it is a sheer music to my ears. I encounter a very different and a very unusual peace during that time. Something very special is discovered and the whole city seems sinking into it.”
“I really like those five minutes,” PC said on an emotional note.
Sonu Nigam, a day before, lost several fans after he went on a religious rant, early in the morning.
On being woken up to the sound of azaan, the singer took to Twitter to slam the practice.
Terming it as ‘forced religiousness,’ he tweeted, “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India.”
