Belagavi: Several incidents of stone pelting were reported in parts of Belagavi in Karnataka following Dussehra festival celebrations leading to tension prevailing in the city, police said on Wednesday.

At least, 24 persons of two different communities were taken into custody in this connection, Belagavi Commissioner of Police TG Krishna Bhat said.

He said, the festival passed off peacefully but during the stone pelting that took place later, four vehicles, including two belonging to the police were damaged last night, he said, adding, the cause was not known yet.

Being Moharram today, tight security arrangements have been made, he said.

Meanwhile, the residents of Chavat Galli staged gherao at Police Commissioner’s office today demanding release of their children claiming that they were wrongly taken into custody.

The situation in the city was tense but under control, DCP (law and Order) G Radhika said.
