Viswanathan Anand to No.1 rank again after losing it for first time in 25years

New Delhi: Five-time world champion suffered a shocking defeat against Russia’s Sergey Karjakin in the fourth round of Candidate Chess tournament in Moscow. With 2.0/3, Karjakin was in leading and with 2.0/4 Anand was in joint 3rd position.

With this defeat, Anand for the first time in around 25years had lost the India no.1 rank on the Elo ratings list for the 1st time.

And then the Champion played an easy draw with white against the Hikaru Nakamura of USA in the fifth round of Candidates Chess tournament.

This draw ensured Anand to regain the no.1 spot for India again after he lost it to Pentala Harikrishna for a little while.
