Watch: Cop slaps sweetshop owner for keeping his store open during elections

Kolkata: A policeman on Thursday forcefully made a shopkeeper close his shop in Shyampukur area of Kolkata in West Bengal by slapping him. It seems that the cop was angry that the shopkeeper did not adhere to the rules and kept his shop opened during the election polling on Thursday.

In the video, the police officer went inside the shop to enquire as to why the shop was open. The shopkeeper said that there was no notification from the authorities to close the shop. Apparently the shop owner’s answer ticked the police officer who then started thrashing the shopkeeper.

The officer, identified as the Deputy Commissioner of the Detective Department (II) of Kolkata Police, Nagendra Tripathi was on duty at the Jorasanko and Shyampukur assembly constituency to maintain the law and order situation in these two areas amidst the polling process was on.
