Hyderabad: Recently, there are complaints that plastic rice is being used in the preparation of Biryani in the city. In one such incident, a TV Journalist, Indirasen purchased a Biryani parcel from ‘Modern Chicken Bazaar’ in Saroor Nagar area. Later, he alleged that plastic rice was used in the Biryani.
With this incident, it became important to know how to detect plastic rice.
1. Take a handful of cooked rice and place it in a plastic container in the sunlight. If the rice is organic one, it will become mouldy, otherwise it will remain intact.
2. Burn a couple of rice kernels, if it catches fire, it is plastic rice else it is an organic one.

3. Pour a tablespoon of rice in water, if it falls to the bottom of container, it is organic rice else it is plastic rice.
