Woman Commission hail Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill 2016

Hyderabad: Telangana State Woman Commission hailed Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill 2016 approved by the Centre on August 24 which bans commercial surrogacy in India. The Bill only allows childless, straight Indian couple married for a minimum of five years to opt for surrogacy.

Speaking to press persons here on Friday, Telangana Women Commission Chairman Tripurana Venkata Ratnam said that the Bill will check the commercial business of Surrogacy and see that no money exchanges hands between the commissioning couple and the surrogate mother.

She further said “Personally I have argued that this commercial Surrogacy is a violation of Human Rights of women and asked commercial surrogacy must be banned. Only blood relatives will be allowed to come forward as a Surrogate mother. So all these points now we can see in the present Bill approved by the Union Cabinet. So I am really expressing my happiness for placing the all restrictions present in the Bill 2016. The child will be having rights to the property of parents is also very good initiative. All these initiatives will ban totally exploitation of poor women particularly Dalit and tribal women in the present Bill “.
