Woman hacked to death by live-in partner

New Delhi: A 50-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by her live-in partner with an axe in southeast Delhi’s Okhla area, police said today.

The incident occurred last night when an argument broke out between Munni and Chandrapal who suspected each other of infidelity, a senior police officer said.

Chandrapal, who was drunk, in a fit of rage, picked up an axe and hit Munni Devi on her head five-six times, leaving her dead on the spot, the officer said.

He fled the spot after killing Munni but was later held from the area, said the officer.

Munni had separated from her husband following an argument and had been staying the accused for the last five-six years. She has two daughters and as many sons from her previous marriage.

Since past few days, Munni’s maternal uncle, who is handicapped, had come to stay with the couple. A woman used to come and meet him and had also become friends with Chandrapal, the officer said.

“Munni didn’t approve of Chandrapal’s friendship with the woman. Chandrapal was not in favour of Munni’s uncle staying with them. He also suspected her of infidelity and didn’t approve that she was very close to her uncle,” said the officer.

Last night, they had a huge argument over these issues and the accused, who was inebriated at that time, attacked Munni and killed her.

The accused claimed that it wasn’t a planned attack and he lost temper after Munni accused him of being over-friendly with another woman, he added.

Munni’s body has been preserved at the AIIMS mortuary for post-mortem.
