Woman traps prospective Hyderabad grooms on website; held

Hyderabad: A woman was arrested by Cyber crime police on Wednesday at Bengaluru for cheating people on online matrimonial sites and extracting money from them citing false emergencies.

Y. Sushmita had uploaded fake details and picture on Bharatmatrimony.com, using it as a bait to trap men looking for a match.

Her fraud came to light when a man filed a complaint with Cyberabad Police against Sushmita on March 6. According to the man, he took membership on the website on November 28, 2016 and after seeing Sushmita’s profile exchanged details. Parents of both parties communicated for a week, and after that they agreed on marriage and decided to meet on February 6, 2017.

Meanwhile, Sushmita convinced the man that she had lost her wallet, credit cards, debit cards and passport and Rs 40,000. Believing her the man gave her Rs 1,66,500 through online transfer from January 24 till February 2. After that the girl and her family disappeared from the scene.

The victim filed a complaint with the police against Sushmita, on the direction of matrimonial site. During investigation it was revealed that t two more individuals had fallen prey to her tactics, one of whom had transferred Rs 2,78,000.

The cyber crime team arrested Sushmita on Wednesday from Bengaluru and remanded her to custody.
