Won’t spare anyone supporting ‘anti-national activities’: BJP

Sudhanshu-Trivedi

New Delhi : Coming down heavily on alleged ‘anti-national activities’ in the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday said they won’t spare anyone supporting such activities.

“We won’t allow assault of any student. But at the same time, we won’t spare anyone supporting anti-national activities,” BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi told ANI.

“The Communist leaders are saying that the dignity of the JNU is being lowered. We want to ask whether it won’t be regarded as ‘anti-national’ if supporting Afzal Guru is right. Does this increase the integrity of the university? Even people like Hafiz Saeed raise these kinds of slogans,” he added.

Trivedi firmly stated that there can be political oppositions but anti-national activities won’t be allowed.

“One can do any kind of revolution, but violence is not allowed. A section of the students of the university is trying to demean the dignity of the institution, but it won’t be tolerated,” he said.

He added that the professors and the students of the university must come forward and oppose the section of the students to save and preserve the dignity of the university.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have detained seven JNU students amid the ongoing controversy over anti-India slogans being raised at an event at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) against the hanging of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

The Delhi Police had earlier registered a case of sedition against the JNU students who had agitated against the hanging of Guru following complaints by BJP MP Maheish Girri and RSS’s student front Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP).(ANI)
