GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Tuesday informed that the works on construction of model markets were going on in full swing.
The GHMC had planned to construct 200 model markets at a cost of Rs. 60 lakh each. Rs. 130 crore were also earmarked for the project. Of them, the construction of 170 markets at a cost of Rs. 90 crores was already sanctioned by the GHMC Commissioner. So far, works on as many as 40 model markets in nearing completion the tender process is on for 119 markets.
The GHMC is planning to construct 10 model markets in each circle. About 200-500 sq.yds is being identified for each market.
Presently, the GHMC is having only 30 markets in the city for a population of over one crore. The State Government wants one model market for 10,000 people. (INN)
