Haridwar: Shankaracharya of Dwaraka-Sharda Peeth Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati give rise to another controversy, saying that drought-like situation in Maharashtra is a result of worshipping “unworthy” Shirdi Sai Baba.
As per Times of India reports, Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati was on a fortnight-long visit to Haridwar, said places that people worship who are unworthy of worship suffer drought, flood, death. Sai Baba was a “fakir” and people are worshipping him as if he were a God .
“Calamity strikes where those unworthy of worship are worshipped,” the Shankaracharya said, quoting scriptures to emphasise that “such places suffer drought, flood, death or fear”. “Maharashtra is facing all of these,” he added.
The Shankaracharya had earlier incited a number of controversies and debates, saying that Sai Baba is unworthy of worship and devotees should abstain from doing so.
With women being allowed to worship in the inner sanctum of the Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, the Shankaracharya said that this would result in increase of rape incidents.
“Women entered Shani temple’s inner sanctum. The women are worshipping Shani in the temple. By doing so, Shani’s eyes would fall on women and this would result in increase of rape incidents,” Swaroopanand Saraswati told ANI.
