It was wrong to criticise Aamir Khan: Ashutosh Rana on intolerance debate

New Delhi: Actor Ashutosh Rana today weighed in his support for Aamir Khan, who was criticised for his comments on the intolerance, saying it was wrong of people to criticise the superstar.

The 50-year-old PK star during an award function in the national capital last month had said he was “alarmed” by a number of incidents in the country.

Rana, 48, known for his villainous roles in films like Dushman and Sangharsh, says rather than pulling down Aamir, there should have been a debate about the relevance of what he said.

“If someone gives a statement on intolerance, we should discuss statement, rather than the person, who made that statement. We should not pull down the person and criticise his achievements. The person has done shows like Satyamev Jayate,” Rana said during a session at Agenda Aaj Tak 2015.

On the trend of personalities from different fields returning their awards, Rana says it is not a wrong way to protest.

“‘Award wapsi’ is not a wrong way to protest. People who returned their awards did not resort to any kind of violence. They did not do any riots, burn any trains, organise any kind of rallies or bandhs. Mahatma Gandhi too started civil disobedience. I don’t know if it’s valid, but the method is right,” he said.
