Yechury dubs Rohit’s suicide as “institutional murder”

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury on Wednesday dubbed the suicide by Rohit Vemula, a Dalit scholar in University of Hyderabad, as “institutional murder.”

Addressing the protest meeting at UoH after meeting Rohit’s family members Yechury said that the Central Government was directly responsible for the circumstances which forced Rohit to suicide. He blamed Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi for the incident and condemned him for not reacting on the issue. “Modi has all the time to go on foreign tours but no time for national issues,” he said.

Yechury demanding that Rohit’s death must be probed through a high level and independent team. He said that all political parties should join hands to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.

According to sources, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, BSP Supremo Mayawati and other national leaders are likely to visit the UoH campus on Thursday. (INN)
