YSRCP urges EC to initiate action against Kodela on poll expenditure

YSR Congress Party leader and official spokesperson Ambati Rambabu has urged the Election Commission to take action against AP Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao for violating electoral norms.

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Ambati said Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao had agreed that he spent Rs 11.50 crore for Assembly elections in his constituency in Sattenapally. Since the former himself accepted about his election expenditure, he has no right to continue as an MLA and the Election Commission should take his acceptance as suo motu.

Stating that after consulting legal experts, his party would lodge a complaint with the Election Commission, Rambabu demanded that the Speaker Kodela resign from the post for openly confessing that he had spent Rs 11.50 crore in the election. It may be mentioned here that Kodela, during an interview with a TV channel recently, reportedly said when he first contested election in 1983, he had spent only Rs 30,000.  But now he has an expenditure of  Rs 11.50 crore.
