Will Triple Talaq bill help Modiji with vote bank? Here’s what UP says

Muzaffarnagar/Meerut: The much controversial Triple Talaq Bill successfully passed by the NDA government in a move to help Muslim women has ended in a much destitute state with no mandatory help to these women, TN reports.

Though many women gave a thumbs up to Modi Government for its efforts to criminalise the practice will this bill help Modiji in his vote bank share?
UP is slated to go for polls with its first phase on April 11 and now BJP is hoping a good chunk of vote bank from the Muslim community.

“Triple talaq is an atrocity which should definitely be criminalised. I like BJP for thinking about us,” says a Muslim mother of a 6-year-old kid.
Will not turn a blind eye to atrocities against the Muslim community and definitely will not vote for BJP she adds.

“I will vote where my husband wants me to. He does not want BJP, so I will not vote for it,” she says.

“Don’t interfere in our religion. Keep politics out of it,” responds her husband and takes her away.

A similar pattern can be seen in other regions of UP like Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Baghpat.

A resident of Kairana, said, “Triple talaq is a wrong practice but we are not for the BJP. We will vote for anyone fielded by Akhilesh ji (SP chief Akhilesh Yadav) as my husband says.”

Yes many have hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing triple talaq under the spotlight which has in some way understood the rights of Muslim women but criminalizing the practice was the only solution?

Who is going to look after these women who are now divorced with their husbands behind bars for going against the Bill.

The apex court has set-aside the triple talaq practice on several grounds in August 2017.

While many are of the opinion that BJP was indeed making efforts to polarize the society and interfered in the laws of Islam.

“Triple talaq is in our Islam. Who are they to interfere? We can take care of our women and don’t need the government for it. We will not let BJP win again,” says another UP resident.

Another resident of Kairana said: “All these years, the BJP polarised Hindus and Muslims. Now they are trying to divide men and women in Islam. They are showing that it is a very positive step but in fact it’s only an interference in our religion.”

“There are bigger issues to look at. Why are they getting into our personal issues. Our women are our responsibility. We will see what has to be done,” said another UP resident who is also a general physician.
